Hi,
My name is Alexei M., also known as DJ Tsikada, and I would like to borrow of few moments of your time and share my story and my take on the current EDM.
First and foremost, I am a DJ and I tend to be slightly obsessive about it. In my very own subjective opinion, DJing is not simply one’s ability to beat match, but also one’s ability to comprehend melody and sound and most importantly to connect with your audience. I can proudly say that I am very picky when it comes down to selecting my play themes. On a brighter side, although I am a picky and grumpy old man, I am not always bounded by one EDM genre. I believe in a healthy mix of styles as long as they are blended with taste. This can be tricky, but if one masters the skill, he/she will reach even more ears, bodies, and minds. I enjoy all shapes of music (almost all with a few exceptions) and I’m not afraid to throw in some non-conventional tracks here and there just to keep my audiences wondering (hopefully, in a good way:]). I play some progressive, trance, techno, and even some mellow psy if I feel like the Earth is not spinning fast enough. Check out my sets and see what I’m blabbing about.
So, what’s happening with Trance these days? A lot, but not all Trance is good in my cruel opinion. As I mentioned earlier, I am very picky and there is a good reason for that – Trance has become very generic in its sound and musical structure. Creativity is only apparent in very few producers. Accessibility to good software and multiple plug-ins allows many people to try and create their own pieces. This is generally good news from a quantity aspect (I frankly can’t keep up with all the new releases), but somewhat poor from a quality angle. This is not something that drives me away from Trance (and there are still good productions that come out regularly), but I’ve since expanded my horizons to other genres and directions. Remember, keep it original and diverse and reach more audiences with your sound!
My near-term plans for the future.
I am a very ambitious kid and I constantly spin various ideas in my head. I enjoy working with other DJs and bounce my ideas off of them. I also like to hear from my fans with their feedback and possible requests. I keep it open and accessible. My monthly promo sets will keep coming strong and I’ll occasionally and randomly be featured on the Internet radio waves (keep in touch for updates). In the next several months, I will be working on getting out more and playing gigs in the St. Louis area (come check me out). My mind has also been set on producing something of my own, but I’ve only got as far as a couple of edits and mash-ups. It takes an incredible amount of effort and time and one day I’ll find them both!
I love music, I love dance, and I love to see people dancing to good music. If you haven’t got in touch with your EDM wild child, give me sign and I’ll help you find it.
Yours truly,
_Tsikada
